Happy Birthday, Nate!

We had another birthday around here--Nate turned 7!  It was a school day so it was a pretty regular day but at least it started out with cinnamon rolls.  Nate gave out some bubbles to his friends at school and he chose roast beef and mashed potatoes with gravy for his dinner (he's my son :).
His cake:
That's the Odd Squad seal.  Nate loves that show.
Then it was present time.
Nate had made this birthday list long before his birthday:
As you can tell, he kept adding to it and editing it.  If you can't tell, it says: The Secret Life of Pets, Sorry (the game), hhh (stands for Hungry Hungry Hippos), Baloo's wife and son (more giant bears from Costco like the one he got last year), creature power suits (from Wild Kratts), bath robe, wii disks (more games), camera, cheap Wii-U (sadly, that doesn't exist), tablet, and a 98 crayon box.
His list got pretty pricey this year!  He didn't get too much from it but he did get a few things:
Battleship!
A pretty powerful nerf gun:
Hungry Hungry Hippos:
Creature power suit:
He had to put it on, of course!
It was a hit!
He also loved this American Ninja Warrior shirt:
Nate loves that show!
He is constantly climbing all over the house, mostly in doorways, coming up with harder jumping-spider-esque challenges for the show.
Nate is very strong and athletic.  He loves climbing, running, and playing sports.  After refusing to learn to ride a two wheeler for years, he finally climbed on Natalie's bike one day last summer and took off.  He was more than ready.  He was a little cautious at first, but now he loves riding his bike.  He and Natalie love riding to 7-Eleven here (less than a mile from our house) and using their money to buy goodies.

He is very sweet and considerate of others.  He is a wonderful big brother to Eli. He's always teaching him, playing with him, and helping him.  Of course they do fight often.  But, Nate very rarely purposely hurts Eli.  He is very gentle with him.  He's a great little brother, too.  He loves his sisters and nothing hurts more than not being allowed to go in their room.

Nate's done a great job adjusting to full-day school this year.  He is great about getting up and ready (once you've woken him up--he's good at sleeping in).  He is doing well in all of his subjects. His teacher is a bit of a stickler about hand-writing and Nate has improved so much!  I saw something he wrote the other day and thought that one of the girls had written it at first.  His reading is improving a lot.  He just barely started reading one of the girls' big chapter books.  No easy readers for him, I guess!  We'll see if he grows to have the same love of books as his sisters, or if he's more like his dad was at his age--not much of a reader.

He can still be shy, especially about speaking to strangers.  He's grown a lot, though.  For the primary program this year, he did his part really well and actually sang all the songs! He is also still quite stubborn about things he doesn't want to do.  He's as soft-hearted as ever.  He still loves babies and is always so good with them.

We sure love our Nate!
