This was a big year for Eli--he turned 8! He was very excited for his birthday, even though a pandemic made a birthday party difficult. We did get to that a few months later. On his birthday, we just had a family party. He wanted cinnamon rolls for breakfast, steak for dinner, and cake and ice cream, He wanted some Ninjago characters on his cake and I did my best:
The biggest thing he wanted for his birthday was a Yes Day. He was so excited to get it!
He also got some other things, including video game accessories he wanted.
Eli had a tough but good year, too. Having 1st grade cut short was hard and we got a little lax in the schooling department with him. Moving was tough, too, especially leaving the neighborhood kids behind. Thankfully, he got an excellent teacher for 2nd grade in Clovis--Mrs. King. I think school at home would have been so much harder with a different teacher. Even though he didn't really like zoom meetings, she made them fun and helped the kids to get to know each other a little bit. Going back to in person school was an early birthday present for him, even if it was only part-time. We had some issues for a while with him not keeping up on school work he was supposed to do. He ended up with his worst grade being math in the beginning of the year because he wasn't doing the iReady work he was supposed to do, even though math is actually his best subject. Luckily, we figured it out and he got his grade up later. He is still a great student and does well in all his work. He loves participating and would get so upset if the teacher didn't call on him or let him say something. He became a Zoom expert and would often give advice to his teacher or other kids that were having problems. :)
Eli mastered swimming after we moved to Clovis and could soon dive all the way to the deep end. He started karate, like I mentioned, and thrived there. He earned his yellow belt but in order to do so, had to be kicked in the stomach by the instructor. He was scared and didn't like it but he did it and earned the belt. Eli still loves video games and loves playing with Nate. He also loves playing Fortnite and talking to friends while playing. He loves playing board and card games and one of the perks of home school was lunch-time card games. He discovered a love for the Boxcar children and started reading those, although he still claims he doesn't like to read and won't do it too often. He still loves treats of all kinds and loves to spend his money on candy and drinks. He still has an amazing imagination and is so full of life and enthusiasm. He became a big brother this year and is an amazing one. I'm sure it was rough at times not being the youngest anymore but you wouldn't know it since he has been nothing but kind and loving to Eve. We're so thankful for Eli!
